WALKING ANALYSIS / RUNNING ANALYSIS

Running is a sport that has become increasingly popular in recent years. With the onset of the pandemic due to difficult access to gyms even more people started running to be able to work out as well as to be able to get rid of daily stress.
Epidemiologically, 50-85% of runners suffer an injury which leads to their temporary separation from the sport.
The most common injuries of runners are tendon diseases such as Achilles, patellar, posterior femoral, hip ligament syndrome, plantar fasciitis as well as fatigue fractures such as 2nd or 5th metatarsus.
What we observe in daily practice is that injury rates increase if the athlete does not combine running with strength training or flexibility training. Other causes of injury are the industrial characteristics of the athlete as well as his running technique, psychogenic factors, dietary factors, sleep quality disorders, training errors such as a very sharp increase in distance or intensity of training.

Therefore, a runner can visit the physiotherapist after an injury to identify the errors or the cause of the injury. Many times during the evaluation we can identify weaknesses that predispose to an injury. During the analysis of the run we observe weaknesses, imbalances or errors in the technique which caused an injury but many times we can prevent an injury.
The athlete can visit the physiotherapist even if he is not injured but wants to improve his performance. By improving any imbalances and weaknesses we help the athlete to consume less energy as well as to have greater endurance or explosiveness.
During the examination, the large muscle groups that play an important role in running are usually measured. We test the strength and endurance of the athlete with specific tests. If the athlete is not seriously injured and can run then he is videotaped as he runs and his video is analyzed with special equipment to find any deviations from normal. The analysis of the video together with the special tests help in the organization of a rehabilitation program or the prevention of an injury.
